SAM’S CHINESE KITCHEN 376A VICTORIA ST. N., KITCHENER 519-569-8388

-

2 Forks Hours Open daily 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; closed Tuesdays Wheelchair accessibility Yes, though some of the traditional hallway clutter would need to be cleared for a wheelchair to get to the spacious washroom Atmosphere The décor is what one might expect in a traditional Chinese family restaurant. There is the obligatory TV tuned to a Chinese-language station, and several round tables that would easily fit an extended family. All the tables are shrouded with multiple layers of plastic tablecloth to facilitate cleanup. The space is enlivened somewhat by a large attractive Jade plant in an expansive south facing window. Cuisine Mostly Cantonese with some Szechuan. Offering all-day home-made dim sum as well as an extensive à la carte offering. Note that prices for various dim sum items vary by up to 50 cents depending on the time of day, rising at 3:30 p.m. A small dish can be as low as $3.45 while an extra-large could be as much as $5.75. Drinks There is not a written list of drinks, but the wait-staff will be happy to tell you what is available, including house wine by the glass, bottled domestic beer as well as Tsingtao from China’s second largest brewery Service Variable but for the most part pleasant and helpful The bill $78.99 (including tax but not tip) for two main dishes, five dim sum and two beers In a nutshell The restaurant’s name reflects what it is: a decent option for dim sum and other Chinese dishes
