Suspect’s bail hearing extended in suspicious death case
KITCHENER — Jason Cesar will stay in jail until at least Monday while he waits for a decision on his request to be freed on bail.
He’s the second suspect charged as police investigate the suspicious death of Christopher Deweese, 32, a Kitchener man whose body was found in a farmer’s field last month.
Cesar, 44, is charged with committing an indignity to a human body and breaching probation. He was convicted in March of possessing a controlled substance and put on probation for a year, court documents show.
Tuesday, Cesar attended a lengthy bail hearing in a Kitchener courtroom. He appeared distraught at times, lowering his head to stare at the floor. He grasped his head in his hands when told a decision on his bail request would not be made Tuesday. A publication ban has been imposed on details of the hearing.
Deweese’s body was found July 12 in North Dumfries Township. An autopsy was performed. A methamphetamine charge that Deweese faced was unresolved before his death. Local police have determined Deweese did not die where he was found. His death is considered suspicious.
Desiree McNeill, 29, of Cambridge is also charged with committing an indignity to Deweese’s body. She was convicted this month on unrelated charges of possessing heroin and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
