Panthers search for new manager
KITCHENER — Think you’ve got what it takes to manage a team in the Intercounty Baseball League? Then the Kitchener Panthers would like to hear from you.
The local IBL team is looking for a new field boss after the departure of Dave teBoekhorst, who stepped down following a three yearsting as manager to spend more time with his young family.
The team says all coaching positions are up for grabs in 2018, and will be filled once the new skipper is picked.
“The Panthers will be accepting written applications for the position of field manager starting immediately. Once a candidate has been chosen, the remainder of the coaching staff will be chosen,” team president Bill Pegg said.
The new manager will have big shoes to fill after teBoekhorst, whose Panthers had their best regular season (28-8) since 1993, and made it the league championships for the second time in three years.
In his three years with the team, teBoekhorst’s Panthers had an 81-28 record. The team’s attendance during that stretch was also some of the best in recent memory.
Pegg said the team would like to have its coaching staff picked by the end of October.
It’s also looking for two interns who will research the team’s history, and do marketing and special events as the Panthers mark their 100th season in 2018.
The Panthers also want two new people to join their board of directors as they approach their centennial.
