Massive search underway for Cambridge man

- Terry Pender, Record staff

KITCHENER — Hundreds of volunteers spent Thanksgiving Day searching along Fountain Street for a young man who was last seen walking in that area early Saturday morning after a night of Oktoberfesting.

Clayton Collison, 20, was last seen walking on Victoria Street North in Kitchener after leaving a party at Bingemans. That was about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Family members, friends and the Waterloo Regional Police started looking for him Saturday.

By Monday morning about 200 volunteers gathered at the Pit Stop on Shantz Road across from the Waterloo Region Airport to continue the search.

Clayton is six-foot-one, 180 pounds, with brown hair. He was wearing a beige and red plaid shirt, jeans and boots.

Anyone with information should call the Waterloo Regional Police at 519-653-7700, ext. 2299.

“We have gone north to south from Victoria to the 401 on Fountain Street,” said Kayla Collison, the missing man’s sister.

“We are regrouping and will do more of an east-to-west search.”

Clayton was known to walk home after a night of partying, and his family thinks he would have gone along Fountain Street. Searchers looked around Breslau Sunday with the help of drones, and Waterloo Regional Police had an all-terrain vehicle and a service dog looking along the Grand River just north of Victoria Street.

Clayton lives in the Shantz Hill area of Cambridge.

“We think he was trying to walk home from an Oktoberfest event at Bingemans Friday night,” said Kayla.

“He was with a group of people at the event. When he left he was with a single friend, and they got separated. Clayton headed for home.”

The friend found a ride, and texted Clayton to meet up at the Mercedes-Benz dealership on Victoria Street North.

“By the time his friend got there with the ride, they could

not find Clayton anywhere,” said Kayla.

Clayton works at Kal Tire on Pinebush Road in Cambridge. He lives on Cyrus Street.

“I know he took out cash at the ATM in the Short Stop on Shantz Hill at about 9 p.m. Friday. They went to Oktoberfest at Bingemans. And what I have been told is they left about 2 a.m. or 2:30 a.m. Saturday,” said Kayla.

“They started to walk together, and then his friend was kind of dragging and Clayton just wanted to get home,” said Kayla.

“By 3:30 a.m. they were separated, and by 4 a.m. his phone was dead, just going straight to voice mail.”

By Monday around 5 p.m. the searchers were regrouping again on Shantz Road to decide how they should proceed.

“We are doing all right,” said Kayla. “There isn’t really any update, or anything found.”

They are distributing a picture of Clayton that was taken by a surveillance camera in a convenience store just before he withdrew funds from an ATM Friday around 9 p.m.

“That’s all we really know,” said Kayla.
