WATERLOO REGION — Enjoy the crisp, autumn weather this weekend with a zombie walk or Oktoberfest barrel race. If you’d rather stay indoors, you can check out a storytelling festival in Kitchener or quilt show in Waterloo.

There’s a lot to do in the region this weekend. Here’s a short list:

The Latitudes Storytelling Festival is a free event that celebrates stories told through spoken word, poetry, music, dance and art. It’s a family-friendly festival at Kitchener Public Library’s main branch downtown.

Listen to stories and poetry, watch puppet shows and more on Saturday. For a detailed schedule of events, visit the website at www.latitudesfestival.com.

Celebrate Halloween a little early with the Kitchener Zombie Walk. Dress up like a zombie and bring a non-perishable food donation along. For more details, visit the event’s Facebook page at www.kitchenerzombiewalk.com/facebook.

Check out some unique handmade quilts at the Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild exhibit at RIM Park on Saturday. More than 300 quilts made by guild members will be on display. There will also be some vendors selling quilting supplies as well as a raffle draw. Proceeds will go to the Arthritis Society. Tickets are $8.

The 49th Oktoberfest festival comes to an end this weekend. Why not spend the day at the Great Oktoberfest Barrel Race in Waterloo on Saturday? The fun, annual event will have registered teams of people race kegs in Waterloo Public Square. Children can participate in free wheelbarrow races.

Teams of up to four people can register to race a barrel for $35. Proceeds go to support uptown Waterloo businesses. For more information about final Oktoberfest events this weekend, visit the website at www.oktoberfest.ca.
