KITCHENER — Two berths at next week’s OFSAA field hockey championship will be up for grabs Thursday morning at Woodside Park.

In addition to earning a spot in Thursday afternoon’s Central Western Ontario (CWOSSA) final, both semifinal winners will advance to the Nov. 2-4 all-Ontario championship in Burlington.

The Resurrection Phoenix and Bluevale Knights will meet in one semifinal, a rematch of last year’s OFSAA final, and the Southwood Sabres will take on Guelph’s John F. Ross Royals in the other.

The four teams punched their semifinal tickets Wednesday by advancing from pool play at the six-team tournament.

Bluevale, the defending CWOSSA and OFSAA champion, scored a 1-0 win over the Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders and a 3-0 win over John F. Ross to finish first in Pool A, ahead of John F. Ross.

Abby Beaton had a big day for Bluevale, scoring the only goal against SJAM and twice against Ross. Sophie Schmidt scored the other goal and Kayla Desmoreau posted a pair of shutouts. John F. Ross eked out a 1-0 win over SJAM in the other Pool A game as Kaileigh Boyd scored the only goal.

Southwood won Pool B by recording a 3-2 win over Resurrection and a 5-0 mercy rule victory over the Guelph CVI Green Gaels. Taylor Trussler and Brooke Ritchie both scored twice against Guelph CVI, McKenna Nurse added a single and Christine Perrie posted the shutout.

Trussler, Nurse and Ritchie also scored in the win over Resurrection, which received goals from Hannah Cook and Justine Bissonnette. Resurrection survived to play another day, thanks to a twogoal effort by Rachel Buttinger in a 2-1 win over Guelph CVI. Lorraine Vandermyden replied for the Green Gaels.

The CWOSSA semifinals will be played simultaneously at 10 a.m. with the final at 1 p.m.
