midnight; no reservations are taken on weekends Wheelchair accessibility Not easily to the restaurant; the washrooms, down some steep stairs to the basement, are inaccessible Atmosphere The dark space, and a feeling the whole place needs a good scrubbing, if not a makeover, contributes to the muted atmosphere. A life-size cigar store “Indian” apparently does not faze the clientele who have embraced it according to owner Steve Varnasidis. He suggests that it’s there as an homage to the First Peoples who inhabited the land and cooked with wood and fire. It was a conversation point at our table for sure. Cuisine A mixture of southern barbecue styles applied to good quality meat, sourced from a Toronto Butcher; all but about five per cent of the food is made from scratch. Drinks Q-BBQ changes up the beer selections every few months; the current focus is on offerings from Toronto’s Amsterdam Brewing Company, and a few beers from the U.S., but the next rotation might see one of Cambridge’s four breweries featured, so long as the Q’s clientele find their products to their taste. Otherwise, some Ontario and other wines, and a range of bar offerings and soft drinks are available. Service The service was pleasant and generally efficient, though we had to ask for wet naps, something of a given in a barbecue joint. The bill $106.14 (including tax but not tip) for two appetizers, substantial mains, and desserts, and two pints of beer; we had copious leftovers that we packed in the admirably-compostable cardboard containers provided In a nutshell Hearty portions of good, southern barbecue in a restaurant that could do with a facelift
