WATERLOO REGION —This weekend enjoy a number of Halloweenthemed, family friendly events including a movie night, a Monster Mash celebration and a pumpkin carving contest.

There’s a lot to do in the region this weekend. Here’s a short list:

On Saturday head to either the Cambridge Farmers’ Market or the Kitchener Market for some Halloween fun. If you’re planning to attend the Cambridge market, dress up in your Halloween costume and prepare for a Zombie Infestation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or join in on some cupcake decorating from 9 a.m. until noon. There will also be art activities available and stores downtown are welcoming trick-or-treaters. Attendance is free of charge.

Kitchener’s Market is hosting a Monster Mash – dress up as your favourite monster and prepare to dance to some fun tunes, eat some treats and make some cool crafts. To participate, bring a donation for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

Once you’ve finished at the markets, head on over to Kitchener City Hall for Makerween hosted by Maker Expo – a group of artists, creators, and organizations who embrace the do-it-yourself motto. The Halloween maker event is free and will include a pumpkin carving contest, cardboard costume building, 3D printing, finger knitting, and a chance to carve a Cyclops out of foam.

If you’re looking for something to do during the evening, catch a free flick at the Chandler Mowat Community Centre. The City of Kitchener and the Chandler Mowat Neighbourhood Association is hosting a Halloween moving night with two films. The first family friendly film – Scared Shrekless – starts at 5 p.m. and will be followed at 7 p.m. by The Addams Family, which is targeted to those 13 years of age and older. The event is free and snacks will be available for purchase.

On Sunday, head over to the Waterloo Region Museum for its Scary Boo Fun, family day. For the price of regular admission the museum is hosting a day of events that includes cookie decorating, Halloween bingo and trivia, a costume parade, games, and crafts. Don’t forget to wear your costume. For a detailed schedule visit www.waterlooregionmuseum.ca.
