School should reject racism in all its forms
Re: University withdraws complaint against student — Oct. 26
I along with many in the community find it shameful that Dalhousie University has withdrawn the disciplinary proceedings against Masuma Khan. It alienates groups on campus, including white people, who were the target of her racist rant.
Such comments are racist and unacceptable, especially for someone in the university senate of one of Canada’s most prestigious universities and who occupies a senior leadership position on campus. It is frankly disgusting that such comments are being waived as acceptable.
I am sure if the tables were reversed and it was a non-minority vice-president of the student union who said the opposite about black, Asian, Hispanic or any other group, the proceedings would continue. It is beyond reason that they have chosen to stop this in the face of backlash from a minority of intolerable extremist racists on campus.
It says a lot about the learning institution of Dalhousie University.
Such intolerance and encouragement of racial division is despicable and should not be waived in the face of opposition from blatant self-declared racists. All racism should be shot down no matter the group it comes from or if the person is a self declared “social justice warrior” like Khan. It’s a two-way street. Tyler Berry Kitchener
