WATCHTOWER RESTAURANT 280 LESTER ST., UNIT 105, WATERLOO 519-954-2264 WWW.WATCHTOWERRESTAURANT.COM

-

Hours

Tuesday to Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight; Friday, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to midnight

Wheelchair accessibility

Yes, with a separate accessible washroom. Given how little space there is in the restaurant and because spare chairs are stacked in the washroom, a call prior to ensure there is a clear path to, and in, the washroom might be warranted.

Atmosphere

Completely and proudly nerdy, there is a buzz of friends playing games and sharing good cheer. Various replica weapons, artifacts, dragons and starships from many comic universes and series decorate the walls and ceiling. Tables have been custom designed to accommodate board games.

Cuisine

In addition to weekly themed features, the “Diner’s Handbook” is “puntifully” replete with cheerfully-imagined roadhouse type food, locally-sourced where feasible.

Drinks

A careful selection of craft beer on tap, cider, mead, cocktails, plentiful shots (roll the dice to see what you get!) and good mocktails are all available at very reasonable prices.

Service

The service was attentive with considerable pride taken in the restaurant’s offerings. We weren’t charged for one dessert as a result of our feedback regarding the cold food — a ventilation-related issue the head chef advises has since been addressed.

The bill

$89.27 (including tax but not tip) for two appetizers, mains, one dessert, and beers

In a nutshell

May the force be with this fun, welcoming addition to the Region’s restaurant scene.
