Cambridge woman sent to prison for drug trafficking
KITCHENER — A Cambridge woman facing a charge of committing an indignity to a body has been sentenced to five years in prison on unrelated drug trafficking charges.
Desiree McNeill, 30, was previously found guilty of possession of heroin and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
A co-accused on the drug charges, John Waechter, 39, of Milton was convicted of possession of heroin, meth and marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. He was sentenced to six years in prison.
In late July, McNeill was charged with the indignity offence after the body of Christopher Deweese, 32, of Kitchener was found in a farmer’s field on July 12 in North Dumfries Township, east of Cambridge. That charge has not been resolved.
Deweese’s death is considered suspicious based on the circumstances of where the body was found, police said. The investigation shows that he did not die where he was found.
A second person, Jason Cesar, 44, of Kitchener was charged in August with committing an indignity to Deweese’s body.
In November 2015, McNeill and Waechter were two of five people found by police in a large detached garage on First Avenue in Cambridge. Inside were 323 grams of heroin, 12 grams of meth and some marijuana. The total value of the drugs was as high as $98,000.
Two of the people found in the garage, a woman and a man, wound up dying of drug overdoses. One died in December 2016 and one this past spring.
The other person found in the garage, a man, pleaded guilty last year to possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking.
The indignity charge McNeill faces is not connected to the drug charges.
