Mounties seize ‘shatter’ in Cambridge drug bust

CAMBRIDGE — More than three kilograms of “shatter,” a potent cannabis extract, was seized by the RCMP in a drug bust in Cambridge.

Shatter, which resembles thin sheets of amber glass, has a THC content of 80 per cent, about four times stronger than typical marijuana. THC is the chemical that gets people high.

The RCMP also seized 22.6 kilograms of marijuana bud, $39,000 in cash and three vehicles worth a total of $100,000. The value of the drugs seized is $300,000.

The Mounties executed search warrants on Wednesday at a business on Montrose Street and a residence on Hawthorne Drive.

Buddy Franck Jr., 42, and Gertrude Tracey Hann, 46, both of Hawthorne Drive, were jointly charged with six offences, including possession of property obtained by crime, laundering proceeds of crime, conspiring to traffic a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of traffickin­g.

They will appear in Kitchener court on Jan. 19.

“The RCMP is committed to protecting the community from the threats of illegal drug traffickin­g and associated illegal activities such possession of property obtained by crime and money laundering,” the Mounties said in a news release.

The Mounties thanked Waterloo Regional Police for assisting in the investigat­ion.
