Kitchener doctor faces hearing over alleged sexual advances
A Kitchener family doctor faces a discipline hearing following allegations that he made unwanted and inappropriate sexual advances on a female co-worker.
Dr. Ashraf Mourcos is scheduled to appear before the discipline committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario on Jan. 15.
In or around 2013, it’s alleged that Mourcos made unwanted and inappropriate sexual advances to a female co-worker and engaged in inappropriate physical or sexual contact without her consent in their place of work. According to the college’s website, Mourcos studied at Ain Shams University in Cairo and graduated in 1989. If the discipline panel finds Mourcos committed an act of professional misconduct, some possible penalties include imposing conditions on his certificate of registration, an inperson reprimand and a fine.
Two other local doctors face discipline hearings in the new year. Dr. Wagdy Botros, who operated sleep clinics in the region, is scheduled to appear before the committee in January and March. It is alleged that between 2014 and 2016, Botros breached an agreement with the college, including failing to meet with his clinical supervisor at least once a week. Botros, it is alleged, also failed to respond to college inquiries within a reasonable time and with reasonable detail or at all. Botros was handed a third suspension from the college in fall 2016 following previous discipline committee hearings.
Dr. Christopher Doyle, a psychiatrist who had been practising at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, is scheduled to appear before the discipline committee in January and March. It’s alleged that Doyle is incompetent or failed to maintain the standard of practice in the care of his patients. It’s also alleged he engaged in unprofessional conduct with respect to videos posted online, and in his conduct in telephone communications. Doyle’s registration is currently suspended. He was previously disciplined by the college for professional misconduct in 2009 after having a romantic relationship with a patient.
