THREE TRICK VELOSTER
Hyundai Veloster fans will greet the 2019 Veloster N with delight. The high-performance car is powered by a 275-horsepower turbo, has 19-inch alloys and a ground effects spoiler.
DETROIT, MI: The new Veloster, introduced at the North American International Show last week, features a new exterior and interior redesign, powertrain updates, and a catalogue of new and improved infotainment and connectivity features.
The quirky Veloster now comes in three flavours with the introduction of the muchanticipated Veloster N performance enhanced model.
The Veloster and Veloster Turbo still retain its unique two-plus-one door asymmetrical body style with the additional passenger side, half-rear door for easier rear-seat access.
A new wider sunroof has been added and the cowl and A-pillar have been moved back visually extending the hood.
Up front optional LED headlights and daytime running lights have been added either side of the striking new three-dimensional grille design.
New functional air curtains have been added that enhance the looks as well as aerodynamic functionality.
Its stance is more muscular, with higher-volume fenders and wheel arches that are neatly filled with the standard 18-inch alloy wheels.
The roofline has been lowered adding to the distinctive coupe-like body design. Available LED taillights help finish off the rear end with a high-tech appearance.
The base Veloster still retains the Atkinson-cycle 2.0litre inline four-cylinder engine that pushes out 147 hp and an estimated 132 lb/ft. of torque.
The Veloster Turbo retains the 1.6-litre turbocharged, direct injection four-cylinder engine that produces 210 hp and 202 lb/ft of torque.
Torque Vectoring Control (TVC) is now offered in all models. This active cornering feature utilizes the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and powertrain control systems and allows for more dynamic cornering during more enthusiastic driving.
A full suite of sophisticated technologies paired with userfriendly functionality is offered to keep passengers informed and entertained.
The available premium infotainment system offers various advanced connectivity features, including standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The standard seven-inch color LCD display includes AM/FM/MP3 touchscreen audio, auxiliary input jacks, and Rear View Monitor. The available floating-design eightinch touchscreen navigation display includes BlueLink and Infinity premium audio with eight speakers, including a subwoofer and Clari-Fi music-restoration technology. Smartphone integration is also available.
Hyundai’s long awaited high performance N model Veloster is here - well nearly.
It won’t be available until later in the year.
This performance model is easily differentiated from the other Veloster models by its N-design front facia and grille with dedicated front air ducts for enhanced cooling. Additional N-design rocker sills and lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels enhance its more aggressive stance.
A larger N-design rear spoiler has been added as well as an integrated diffuser, and performance-diameter, highflow dual exhaust
Under the hood is a larger 2.0-litre, direct-injected turbocharged engine that pushes out an impressive 275 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque.
This is matched to a closeratio, short-throw six-speed manual transmission with downshift rev-matching capability. The electronically controlled, tuned suspension uses a load transfer control system that reduces dive during braking, body roll during cornering and reduces rear suspension compression under hard acceleration.
The Veloster N comes equipped with oversized 13.6inch performance rotors on the front and 12.4-inch rotors on the rear, for confident braking coupled with a firm pedal feel.
Canadian models will be available in four colours, Phantom Black, Chalk White, Ignite Flame Red, and N-exclusive Performance Blue.
