Trudeau’s summer-grant policy clearly discriminatory
Re: Not discrimination — Feb. 22
I believe Larry Lootsteen’s letter ignored the point Luisa D’Amato made in her column in which she criticized the federal government for denying a Summer Jobs grant for running day camps for kids, to a church that had received funding for nearly 20 years.
It seems pretty clear to me that the Trudeau government violated the Charter of Rights and Freedoms by requiring employers to agree with Liberal Party ideology regarding abortion and LGBTQ rights in order to qualify for the Summer Jobs program.
The Charter lists freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief, expression etc. as fundamental freedoms.
When Trudeau was recently asked why his government paid convicted killer Omar Khadr $10.5 million, he pointed to the violation of Khadr’s Charter rights and said, “We have to stand up for everyone’s rights, whether you agree with them or not.” When he learned that the RCMP was requiring asylum seekers crossing the border illegally to complete questionnaires that he deemed to be discriminatory because they targeted Muslims with extremist ideologies, he stopped it and ordered the questionnaires destroyed.
Denying federal funds for summer jobs to churches because of their politically incorrect beliefs is clearly discrimination.
