Kitchener Comic Con, Schneider Haus maple cakes on tap

-

WATERLOO REGION — Enjoy some maple cake as you learn how to boil sap to make syrup or get busy planning your spring and summer gardens at Seedy Saturday.

There’s a lot to do in the region this weekend, here’s the shortlist:

The annual Kitchener Comic Con extravaganza runs all weekend at Kitchener City Hall. Take advantage of interesting panel discussions, play in a Settlers of Catan or Tetris tournament, or meet one of many guests including actor and writer Phil Guerrero or illustrator Richard Comely.

And don’t miss skating in costume during the 1 p.m. Cosplay Ice Skating meet-up or take advantage of the prop and armour making workshop. Other activities include a drawing contest, a “Goose Bumps” panel, and a session on writing comics.

The Schneider Haus is boiling sap and making syrup. Learn more about the tradition this weekend as you feast on some maple cake. Admission is required, although children four-years-old and younger are free.

Bring the family to the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery for Family Sunday drop-in activities. For a three-hour period, participants will enjoy art activities designed for those between ages four and 12, who are accompanied by an adult. A donation of $5 per child is suggested.

Are you itching to get gardening? Swap seeds at Seedy Saturday, an event being hosted by the rare Charitable Research Reserve on 768 Blair Road in Cambridge.

Meet fellow gardeners, exchange seeds and advice.

Make sure seeds are in small, well-marked packets of vegetable, herb, flower and native seeds. Don’t have any seeds to swap? Don’t worry. Everyone is welcome to attend as some participants give away seeds.
