Caledonia defeats Elmira in overtime

The Caledonia Corvairs defeated Elmira in overtime in a 5-4 victory in last week’s Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League playoff action at the Haldimand Centre. Elmira scored first but Caledonia tied it 1-1 by the end of the opening period. Caledonia’s Adam Craievich and Owen Lane scored two early goals in the second period but Elmira’s Matt MacKay and Ethan Skinner replied with two of their own. The third period ended 4-4 as a goal was scored on both sides, sending the game into overtime. Griffin Roubos scored the game-winning goal for Caledonia late into overtime, taking the victory. In the rematch the next day at the Dan Snyder Memorial Arnea, Caledonia won, 7-6 in double overtime, against Elmira. Caledonia scored first. Elmira replied with two goals but Caledonia scored another two afterward, ending the first period 3-2. Joshua DeFarias and Roubos scored another two goals for Caledonia, but Skinner and Ty Biles put in two for Elmira. The Third period saw a goal from Mason McMahon and Zack Cameron while Roubos scored another for Caledonia, tying the game 6-6. It wasn’t until second overtime that Lane would score the game-winning goal for Caledonia, taking game two against Elmira.
