Bird watching, tree planting this weekend

- Waterloo Region Record

WATERLOO REGION — Get outdoors this weekend and join a bird watching hike or plant some trees.

There’s a lot to do in the region this weekend, here’s the shortlist:

If you’re itching to rejuvenate your wardrobe, clear out your old threads and bring them to a clothing swap at The Button Factory. Make sure the clothing and accessories you bring are in good condition. With the cost of admission, which is $15 at the door, you can start your free shopping. Proceeds from the event go to the Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region and all left over clothing goes to The Green Door thrift store.

The cities of Kitchener and Waterloo are hosting Earth Day activities at Kiwanis Park on Saturday. Activities will include planting trees and shrubs, a live birds of prey show with the Canadian Raptor Conservancy, a chance to see some snakes and turtles, and more.

Join an early morning bird watching hike with the Bridgeport Community Association. It’s a perfect time of year to catch birds migrating back from their summer homes in the south. Birder David Gascoigne will lead the hike. Bring binoculars if you have them!

If you are looking for a relaxing family friendly Sunday afternoon, head to Kitchener Public Library to watch the film Inside Out. The popular Pixar animated film was released in 2015 and is all about emotions, specifically: fear, joy, anger, disgust and sadness.
