Street hockey tourney sends kids to summer camp

The Hot Shots Street Hockey Tournament is a fundraiser to raise money to send local kids to summer camp for Family and Children’s Services. The tournament is a great way to get volunteer hours in for school or to get involved in a fun volunteer opportunit­y while helping children. Volunteers assist with parking, registrati­on, photograph­y, children’s craft area, ball fetching, street fair games, wristband selling, ticket selling, setup and take down, supervisin­g children’s play area, score/timekeepin­g, refereeing and more. The Special Olympics Ontario Kitchener-Waterloo chapter is actively recruiting for the summer season. There are several ways someone can get involved and make the difference in the life of a person. You can help coach one of the many sports such as: bowling, softball or floor hockey. You can assist at the In Running Colour event on Saturday, May 26. • Are you a young person looking for a fun and engaging volunteer opportunit­y? Greenway Chaplin Community Centre in Cambridge is looking for leaders-in-training to support their summer camps for one week in July and August. Be a role model for children in the program by demonstrat­ing a respectful attitude and following camp rules. • Grand River Hospital gift shop (K-W and Freeport campuses) is recruiting volunteer sales clerks and buyers. Our gift shops sell a variety of gift merchandis­e and is operated solely by volunteers. Net proceeds from these businesses are donated to Grand River Hospital. The Business & Education Partnershi­p of Waterloo Region (BEP) is looking for volunteers from all areas of expertise and all sectors to join our Speakers Bureau. Volunteer speakers talk about their career path to help youth understand their career options. The time commitment can be as much or as little as your schedule allows. • K-W Counsellin­g Services is recruiting volunteers for their Walk-In Counsellin­g Clinic on Thursdays, noon to 6 p.m. (sessions end at 8 p.m.). Volunteer therapists will provide single-session counsellin­g to clients and must have a MSW or equivalent. Volunteer intake workers must have a BSW or equivalent. It is preferred that volunteers commit to specific hours each week. Volunteers will receive clinical coaching from a clinical director and/or peers before sessions, attend group supervisio­n and access other profession­al developmen­t opportunit­ies.
