Arrests made following video of beating
KITCHENER — Police have arrested four people as part of an investigation into a video that shows a teen in Kitchener being beaten by a group of teenagers near Huron Heights Secondary School.
The video, which was posted to social media on Sunday, shows a group of young people beating a 17-year-old male on the ground in an outdoor location near Battler Road, behind garbage bins.
The incident occurred on Friday at 1:20 p.m., say Waterloo Regional Police.
The victim is punched and kicked several times, with one person repeatedly punching him in the head.
Another person pulls items out of the victim’s backpack.
Police say the victim had been walking in the area when he was approached by four people, assaulted and robbed.
His injuries were non-life threatening.
Three males and one female have been arrested.
The Waterloo Region District School Board confirmed that the teens involved in the incident are school board students.
“We do not comment on the discipline of specific students, but as always, these types of situations will be fully investigated and disciplinary action will be taken as appropriate,” board communications officer Stephanie Longeway said in an email.
She added that the consequences “could include suspension and or expulsion.”
The police investigation is ongoing.
