What’s open and what’s closed Monday

WATERLOO REGION — If you’re looking forward to celebratin­g the Victoria Day long weekend with some fireworks, make sure you follow your local bylaws.

In Cambridge and Kitchener, residents are permitted to set off fireworks between Sunday and Tuesday, while Waterloo allows fireworks for the entire week before or after Victoria Day.

Prefer to relax and let someone else handle the explosives? Here are some options around the region:

• Conestogo Optimists will have fireworks on Monday at Conestogo Park; the gates open at 7 p.m.;

• New Dundee will host a fireworks display Sunday, starting at 5 p.m., at the New Dundee Community Centre.

Here’s what’s open and closed on Monday:

• Waste collection, including recycling and green bins, continues as usual;

• All Grand River Conservati­on Authority parks are open this weekend, but the head office is closed;

• The Waterloo Central Railway will run a 2 p.m. Victoria Day steam train from the St. Jacobs Market near Value Village, into St. Jacobs;

• Grand River Transit will operate on a Sunday service schedule;

• Conestoga Mall, Cambridge Centre Mall and Fairview Park mall are all closed;

• The Kitchener Public Library, Waterloo Public Library and Idea Exchange in Cambridge are closed;

• There is no Canada Post pickup or delivery;

• Major banks, grocery stores, the LCBO and Beer Store will be closed;

• Regional offices, employment centres, libraries and daycares are closed;

• The Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village are open, but Themuseum in Kitchener and the City of Waterloo Museum are closed;

• The St. Jacobs Outlets and The Village of St. Jacobs are open.
