BikeFest, bridge opening, and a food revolution this weekend
WATERLOO REGION — There’s something for the foodies, cyclists, gardeners, quilters and those just wanting to enjoy the outdoors, this weekend.
Here’s the shortlist of events in the region this weekend:
Take part in Kitchener’s annual BikeFest at city hall. There will be bike decorations, a photo booth, a host of vendors, food and music, electric bike demo rides, free bicycle safety checks and tune-ups, a flat tire repair session and more.
Support a good cause and enjoy some good eats at the New Hamburg Relief Sale in support of the Mennonite Central Committee’s nonprofit work in relief, development and peace. There will be a number of auctions including silent and quilt auctions. There are a host of food vendors, a quilt
tent, a plant tent, and a number of goods to purchase including fair trade coffee, musical instruments, home decor and jewelry. For a full schedule visit: nhmrs.com.
The City of Cambridge is celebrating the opening of a pedestrian bridge in downtown Galt on Saturday. Mayor Doug Craig and
council members will be on hand for the ceremony and there will also be an unveiling of a new sculpture for the Cambridge Sculpture Garden. Following the ceremony there will be a yoga demonstration and social painting session for the community.
Before heading to the bridge opening, celebrate National Pub- lic Works Week with the City of Cambridge at its public works open house. The Bishop Operations Centre will have truck and machine displays, equipment demonstrations, a food truck, face painting and more. The event is free but donations are being accepted for the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank.
Make a stop at the Kitchener Market on Saturday for Food Revolution K-W Day. The family friendly and free event is about fun and approachable food education. There will be a number of activities for the whole family including face painting, arts and crafts, a planting area, nutrition information, a Kids in the Kitchen event and more.
