Homebelievers!

-

WATERLOO REGION, ON (May 31st, 2018) - The Waterloo Region Home Builders’ Association (WRHBA) invites you to join the #homebeliever movement. Homebelievers are people just like you and me. Take Alya and Dylan, for example. They recently got married, live just outside the city and commute in for work every day. They have been saving and want to buy a home before starting a family, but they are worried they can’t afford to make their dream a reality in the community they want. Dylan’s colleague, Nishal, moved to Canada five years ago and started a family but they sure would like some room to grow and be closer to work. Sadly, he’s wondering if they have to leave their beloved neighbourhood to find their “forever home.” Nearby, Maya has been living with her folks to try and save for a deposit on her first home but now she’s wondering if she’ll ever be able to afford to buy her own place. She’s a millennial and a young professional. She doesn’t need a lot of space but she does need parks and trails to walk her dog, Winston, and would like to stay close to her aging parents. Any of these stories sound familiar? All of them are #homebelievers, and we know these stories from our friends and families. As #homebelievers, we believe we should be able to find homes we can afford in the communities where we live, work and play. Unfortunately, that dream is slipping out of reach for many across Ontario. We need more housing supply and more choice. It’s time to get back to basics. It’s about building homes of all types for people in communities where they want to live. That’s why we’re calling on #homebelievers across the province to help us spread the message that we still believe in the great Canadian dream of home ownership and we need to make sure it’s attainable for generations to come. The #homebeliever pledge has already been signed by more than 1200 Ontarians. People have signed it at restaurants, at sporting events, on the GO train and even by non-profit housing groups like Habitat for Humanity and Options for Homes. You can sign it too by going to homebeliever. ca. On the website, you can also send a copy to the provincial candidates running for MPP in your community. Already, more than 100 provincial candidates from all three parties have signed the pledge. We believe all MPPs should be #homebelievers. How else can you get involved? Participate in the #homebeliever conversation and follow @ OntarioHBA on Twitter. Shout it out when you’ve visited homebeliever.ca and signed the pledge. Now is the time to show all levels of government that we still believe in the great Canadian dream of home ownership – that we want more housing choice and supply across Ontario and that we should all be #homebelievers. Since 1946, the Waterloo Region Home Builders’ Association (WRHBA) has been “the voice of residential development and construction industry”—one of the most vital and enterprising industries in Canada. WRHBA represents over 220 member companies comprised of all disciplines involved in residential construction. WRHBA is built on a vision to be a leader in supporting our industry by fostering a vital membership through advocacy, resource sharing and education and in its commitment to improve new housing affordability and choice for new home purchasers and renovation consumers through positively impacting legislation, regulation and policy that affect the industry at all levels of government.
