Take in a porch party ... or a parade

WATERLOO REGION — Celebrate Greek and Portuguese culture, dance away an afternoon at the annual Grand Porch Party or spend the night at the first summer festival of the year.

There’s a lot to do in the region this weekend, here’s the shortlist:

Summer Lights Festival returns to downtown Kitchener on Saturday night for the fifth year, bringing art, tech, games, music, theatre, dance, business and community together for a free celebratio­n starting at 8 p.m. and running into the wee hours. Get your dancing shoes on and join the fun at the 8th annual Grand Porch Party in uptown west in Waterloo. Nearly 30 musicians will take to porches in the neighbourh­ood for the free event.

Enjoy annual Portugal Day festivitie­s in Cambridge including a parade that will start at the Galt Arena and head down Main Street toward the Portuguese monument at Queen’s Square. Then eat lunch at the Portuguese Club of Cambridge where local performers will also take the stage.

In Waterloo, the Greek community is inviting residents to KW Greek Fest. Enjoy live music and food at the two-day event. Admission is either $2 or a food donation for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

Kiwanis park and pool is celebratin­g its re-opening with free admission and a host of family-friendly activities throughout the day — including free cake. There will be an unveiling of the new and improved pool.
