Three locals strike gold at OFSAA

TORONTO — Mylenne Habash was the first local athlete to strike gold at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associatio­ns track and field championsh­ips.

The Père-René-de-Galinée student achieved the feat Friday afternoon at York University, winning the junior girls’ long jump competitio­n with a 5.75metre effort on her final attempt.

Maia Rodrigue of Grand River finished third at 5.37m.

A few hours later, Marcus Kemp of St. Mary’s earned gold in the senior boys’ 1,500m race, in 3:50.71.

And Alex Webb of St. Benedict won the junior girls’ shot put with a 13.02m toss.

Near the end of the day, Isaac Mapp of Preston finished second in the senior boys’ triple jump, with a 13.84m hop, step and jump.

Also Friday, Matt Pfefferkor­n of Waterloo Collegiate won bronze in the senior boys’ high jump (1.95m), Trent Frede of WCI was third in the 100m midget boys’ hurdles, and Adam Exley of Resurrecti­on won bronze in the senior boys’ 110m hurdles (14.15).

David Peet of Forest Heights was third in the senior boys’

discus (48.37m), as two athletes passed him with their sixth and final attempts. Peet threw his best on his first attempt.

The Sir John A. Macdonald 4x100m relay team of Collette Wolfe, Tegan Morrison, Marly Verhoeve and Emily Csontos finished second (48.93) in the junior girls’ race.

On Thursday night, Terrell Webb of St. Benedict won silver in the senior’ boys javelin (59.98m), Maia Rodrigue of Grand River won bronze in the junior girls’ triple jump (11.44m), and Maia Mmalwanda of Sir John A. Macdonald won bronze in the senior girls’ high jump (1.60m).
