Police still looking to identify man captured on video near Kitchener murder
KITCHENER — Waterloo Regional Police are still trying to identify a man caught on a surveillance camera after the stabbing death of a Kitchener man in his home nearly a month ago.
Police released an image captured on nearby surveillance video early in the investigation after Ronald Chandler, 66, was found dead in his rental unit on Courtland Avenue East on June 18.
Chandler’s death is considered a homicide.
While police received a lot of information from people who believed they knew who he was, the man remains unidentified.
“We haven’t been able to identify him yet,” Insp. Mike Haffner of the Waterloo Regional Police said on Friday.
The images were captured near the housing complex at the intersection of Walton Avenue and Courtland Avenue East at about 8 p.m., on June 18.
The man is described as white, late 20s to early 30s with a thin build and short, light-coloured hair. He was wearing a black backpack and carrying a guitar.
Anyone who sees the man should call 911 and not approach him.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service’s major crime unit continues to investigate Chandler’s death after being called to the townhouse by a family member.
Police say they did not know if the attack was random or targeted. They have no suspects in the man’s stabbing death.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8666 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
