Have government bureaucrats read updated sex-ed document?

-

Re: Sex-ed rollback could be ‘chaotic’ with ‘many unknowns,’ critics say — July 13

I’m really not sure what Doug Ford and the PCs are afraid of.

Social awareness? Fighting injustice for those who are marginalized? This includes people who are gay, homosexual, lesbian, transgender, all issues that are explored and discussed in the revised Healthy Active Living Education curriculum from 2015.

And let’s not forget a recently cancelled curriculum initiative educating our school kids about Indigenous people who were here before us — especially the Six Nations people who were given 10 kilometres of land on either side of the Grand River, from the headwaters near Shelburne to the river mouth at Lake Erie, known as the Haldimand Tract. That includes Waterloo Region, Paris and Brantford. I believe our kids need to know about these facts.

Are the PCs going to discard the entire new health curriculum that has an emphasis on mental health? Have the government bureaucrats even read this document?

We in education represent the front lines as we discover and offer support to students who start to show signs of stress and depression and get them the help they need. A lot has changed since 1998, and we need to be forward-thinkers, movers against injustice, and supporters to those who need our awareness and help.
