- by Jane Pinzhoffer, for The Record

“What makes the Mews special is that this is a community where folks really care about each other. It’s not unusual to see people gathering after supper while taking a walk just to have a good chat,” says John Elmslie, President of at the Bayfield Mews, an over 55 development that attracts likeminded neighbours who are looking for an active adult lifestyle in a caring environment. There are only nine lots left in the final phase of this 55-townhome development that offers all the conveniences of living in your own home without maintenance or security concerns. Currently under construction are 16 townhomes and an Activity Centre which will feature a lounge area, a café, an exercise area, and a large TV.

These quality built brick townhomes are surrounded by farms and forested walking trails and were designed specifically for low-cost maintenance. There are four different 2 bedroom plus den models to choose from and each can be adapted to suit any of the lots.

All of the townhomes feature a convenient one floor, with no steps layout and a modern open concept space in the living/dining room. Other notable features include, valance lighting and a serving island in the kitchen, a full width mirror over the vanity and acrylic shower surround with a seat in the large bathroom, in-floor heating, air conditioning, main floor laundry, a guest bathroom, an attached garage, and a walkout to the spacious terrace.

The Aspen, the smallest model at 1,295 square feet, is priced at $349,400, the Birch is 1,355 square feet priced at $366,900, the Cottonwood is 1,482 square feet priced at $399,500, and the Maple is the largest design at 1,620 square feet, priced at $438,500. Picturesque Bayfield is a small heritage village with a prime location on the sandy shores of Lake Huron, at the mouth of the Bayfield River; perfect for boating or fishing. The beach is located next to the marina where you can walk along the pier or take in a stunning sunset over the water. Strolling along Bayfield’s tree-lined main street is a bit like stepping back in time, with its artists’ studios, award-winning fine dining, boutique shopping, and sunny patios. There are 7 golf courses and live theatre within less than a half hour drive and the Stratford Theatre is just one hour away. Highway 21 is nearby and Kitchener-Waterloo is a one-and-a-half hour drive.

“We encourage folks to visit us several times and to meet with owners who are most willing to show their homes. This becomes an opportunity to ask questions and get answers from the resident/owner. It doesn’t take long for folks to make up their minds if this is a community they want to be part of,” says John. “If you’re looking for a community that really cares about their neighbours, then Bayfield Mews may be the community for you.”

You are invited to attend a special Open House, Sunday, September 2. Three of the residents’ will be opening their homes for viewing from 1 to 4 p.m. and there will be hot dogs and refreshments.
