Paul Bernardo ‘fan’ facing new charges

- NICOLE O’REILLY The Hamilton Spectator

A 52-year-old convicted sex offender, once known for being a fan of sex killer Paul Bernardo, has been charged with breaching a court order after she was found working at the Binbrook Fair this month.

Hamilton police confirm they were called Sept. 15 about “a female working at the Binbrook Fair that was of concern to residents.”

The woman, Lori Kooger of Stoney Creek, was arrested and charged Sept. 20 with disobeying a court order, said Const. Jerome Stewart.

The 52-year-old former St. Catharines woman was prohibited from attending public parks, swimming areas, daycare centres, schools, playgrounds or community centres where a person under 16 can reasonably be expected to be present.

The court order stemmed from a 2011 conviction for two counts of sexual interference involving a 12-year-old boy in Whitby.

She was sentenced to three years in prison and was to be added to the sex offender registry for 20 years, according to a report from the St. Catharines Standard at the time.

In the 1990s Kooger, who was then Lori Brown, gained notoriety for regularly attending Bernardo’s court appearances for the murder of two young women and speaking with reporters for her love of “Paulie.”

In later interviews she told media that part of her life was behind her.
