KITCHENER — The productive performance pales in comparison to his best football outing.

Running back Ty Davis galloped for five rushing touchdowns Friday afternoon to lead the Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders (3-0) to a 48-6 victory over the Galt Ghosts (0-3) in Waterloo County (WCSSAA) senior boys football league play at Bridgeport Field.

A great outing to be sure, but not even close to his most impressive outing.

The multi-sport athlete — he’s also a sprinter, high-jumper, long-jumper and basketball player at SJAM — has to go way way in his memory bank for that.

“A long time ago, I think I was 10 years old and playing for the Waterloo Warhawks, I had 12 touchdowns on this exact same field,” said Davis.

“This was still pretty good, though.”

Indeed, it was.

Davis, a Grade 12 player with the talent to play at the next level, scored from four, six, seven, 15 and 28 yards out as the Highlanders built a 48-0 halftime lead and coasted the rest of the way.

SJAM quarterback Ahmed Fouad added his name to the scoresheet with a pair of touchdown passes, a 38-yarder to Simon Deckert and a 65-yard connection with Jarrett King.

Kicker Owen Kent converted five touchdowns and added a single from a kickoff.

Galt’s only score came in the fourth quarter when Ben Wiatrzyk hauled in a Colin McElweenie pass and scrambled 67 yards to pay dirt.

The Highlanders will take nothing for granted in their remaining regular-season games against the Waterloo Vikings, Preston Panthers and Glenview Park Panthers but Davis admits a date with the five-time defending champion Jacob Hespeler Hawks is the ultimate goal.

“I believe this is the year we’ll take it all the way and we want to meet them in the finals and actually beat them this time,” he said. “This year is our best shot.”

In Friday’s other games, Preston scored a 40-37 win over Glenview Park and Waterloo eked out a 16-14 win over the Elmira Lancers.
