Become a part of city’s Skills Library
The following are volunteer opportunities in Waterloo Region. For more information, call the Volunteer Action Centre at 519-742-8610 or check the website at www.volunteerkw.ca.
• The Business & Education Partnership of Waterloo Region (BEP), a not-for-profit charity, is seeking a volunteer communications adviser, on a temporary or ongoing basis, to help grow their capacity to help youth explore careers. Depending on the interest and expertise of the volunteer, responsibilities could include communications planning, content production, traditional and digital promotion, media relations and web design, among other possibilities. Time commitment is flexible. If you’re interested, please contact Scott at ed@bepwr.ca.
• Become part of the City of Kitchener’s Skills Library and truly engage with youth participants in productive ways. Like the Human Library, youth participants are encouraged to engage with a human book — an adult volunteer or staff — to explore and learn something new. Volunteers will share and teach their skills and talents with youth participants. The program runs on Monday evenings from September to May. This opportunity is flexible. You can volunteer just one time for an hour or more depending on your availability and the interest of the youth involved. To find out more, contact Jonathan at 519-741-2200 ext. 5485 or jonathan.massimi@kitchener.ca.
The City of Waterloo needs volunteer drivers for Waterloo seniors: 3,000 rides are required annually for more than 40 individual participants and we need your help. By volunteering as little as one hour per week, you could provide up to 150 rides in a year. If you have just one hour per week in the morning or afternoon, that’s enough. The Senior Outing Day Program at the Adult Recreation Centre provides much needed social and recreational programs to Waterloo seniors. Must be a caring, experienced driver with a reliable vehicle and pass all screening requirements. Contact volunteer@waterloo.ca or 519-888-6488.
