Celebrate Cheecho the parrot’s birthday this weekend

WATERLOO REGION — Craft shows, a birthday party for Cheecho and a nature hike are all on the agenda this weekend.

Take a four kilometre hike through grassland and forest habitats with University of Guelph ecologist Dr. Ellen Esch. Learn ecology basics while exploring the Rare Charitable Research Reserve’s conservati­on lands. Admission is $8 and registrati­on is online at http://raresites.org.

The Cambridge Butterfly Conservato­ry is throwing a party for Cheecho the parrot’s tenth birthday. There will be free cake, a chance to sign Cheecho’s birthday card and take a photo with the conure. Partygoers will also make birthday crafts.

Support a good cause and shop at the Two of Kind Craft and Vendor Show in Breslau. More than 80 vendors will be on site selling a variety of goods, inthe

cluding jewelry, holiday decor, bath products, art, wood work and knitting. Ten per cent of sales along with the admission — $3 at door for adults and $5 for a family — go to support the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Grand River Chapter.

Keen crafters can head over to the Township of Wellesley for another craft show at St. Clements Community Centre. More than 30 vendors will sell homemade clothing, holiday decoration­s, and more. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and there will be a raffle for door prizes.

On Sunday, Bingemans is hosting the Kitchener Model Train Show and Sale. More than 170 vendor tables will include model trains of all scales. There will be train sets, locomotive­s, transforme­rs, track, memorabili­a and more. All are welcome to attend. Admission is $5 per person and children 12 and under are free.
