Working toward a peaceable society
Re: How to make sense of the massacre in Pittsburgh? — Oct. 31
As the steering committee of Christians Together Waterloo Region, we express our profound sorrow that the Jewish community was targeted in the Oct. 27 massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. We grieve with those who have lost loved ones, been injured or traumatized by this act of intolerable violence. We lament the loss of personal safety this attack signals for Jews worldwide, and especially in Pittsburgh.
As people of faith, we are resolved to stand for the dignity and equality of all people, to combat prejudice, stereotyping and hatred in all its forms, and to work toward a peaceable society marked by compassion and goodwill. We invite the churches and faith communities in our area to join us in this important and ongoing mission.
