OUA football all-star picks full of Hawks and Warriors

BURLINGTON — Nine members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football program and seven players from the Waterloo Warriors were named Ontario University Athletics all-stars on Wednesday afternoon.

Three Golden Hawks were recognized as OUA first-team all-stars while six earned secondteam nods. Five Warriors made it to the first-team unit and an additional two were second-team selections. The Western Mustangs, who host the Guelph Gryphons in Saturday’s Yates Cup final, have a conference-best 14 all-stars on the roster, including seven first-team selections.

Laurier receiver/returner Kurleigh Gittens Jr. is a firstteam selection at both positions for the second season in a row and is joined on the top squad by defensive lineman Trevaughan James of Whitby, and defensive back Will Amoah of Kitchener.

Running back Levondre Gordon of Mississaug­a, fullback Mario Villamizar of St. Catharines, and receiver Brentyn Hall of Toronto were Laurier’s second-team selections, along with defensive back Scott Hutter of London, defensive lineman Robbie Smith of Brampton, and kicker Nathan Mesher of Waterloo.

The Waterloo Warriors were well represente­d on the OUA’s first-team all-star unit, with quarterbac­k Tre Ford of Niagara Falls leading the way. Receivers Tyler Ternowski of Hamilton and Gordon Lam of Kitchener also made the cut, along with tackle Jesse Gibbon of Hamilton and Ben Koczwara of London.

Lineman Kyle Boismier of London and defensive back Tyrell Ford of Niagara Falls were second-team selections.

Individual award winners will be announced Thursday.
