The “Mrs. Doubtfire” cast has reunited. Lisa Jakub (who played young Lydia Hillard in the 1993 family comedy) sat down with former co-stars Pierce Brosnan (Stu), Matthew Lawrence (Chris Hillard) and Mara Wilson (Natalie Hillard) for an interview with Today Wednesday, and it almost felt like a family reunion to fans of the film. It’s been 25 years since the actors were all in one room together, Jakub says “there is a sense that no time has passed.” The stars were quick to reminisce about the film’s main star, the late Robin Williams, saying it was hard to keep their composure around his ad-libbing humour. “We did a lot of takes,” Wilson said. “It’d be like take 25 and Robin would be different every time.” “Every take was something new and different and obviously amazing,” Lawrence chimed in. But Jakub noted that Williams made a bigger impact on her with his honestly about mental health and addiction. “One of the most powerful things for me about working with him is that he was very open and honest with me talking about his issues with addiction, depression,” she said. “That was so powerful to me at 14. I have struggled with anxiety my whole life.” Lawrence says he experienced a similar openness from Williams. “Robin was a guiding force,” he said. “All of a sudden, out of the blue he would look over at me like, ‘By the way, don’t do drugs. It really messed up my brain. I’m serious, do not do them.’ And that stuck with me.”
