Shooting in Waterloo sends one man to hospital
A 43-year-old man was sent to hospital in critical condition after a shooting in Waterloo on Thursday night.
Shortly after 10 p.m., police were called to a home on Beechdrops Drive in the Vista Hills neighbourhood for a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said a fight in the home led to the man being shot.
When police arrived on scene, they located the victim and he was rushed to hospital.
“Investigators are still trying to determine and look into who is responsible,” said Const. Andre Johnson, adding investigators are looking to confirm if it was a targeted incident.
Mohammad Gohari and his family live on the street and he said the road was packed with police vehicles on Thursday night.
“We were shocked honestly,” he said. “This is the safest place and somebody got shot last night and we were terrified honestly.”
Sid Thakore lives across the street from the home where the shooting occurred. He said it’s a fairly new subdivision and he’s never experienced anything like this.
He, his wife and her visiting parents were getting ready to go to bed when the flashing lights of emergency vehicles drew their attention outside. “It’s unbelievable,” he said.
On Friday morning, yellow evidence markers dotted the driveway to the two-storey home. A police vehicle was parked on the road in front of the home, which was blocked off with police tape.
Police were at the scene throughout the day Friday, gathering evidence and conducting a canvass of the neighbourhood.
This is the first shooting in the region this year, said police.
