How to cope during unprecedented times

-

• Brainstorm/share ideas with other small business owners – if you’re not already in a group or business organization, consider joining one. It’s amazing just how good it can be for one’s peace of mind to talk to others going through a similar situation. Sharing coping strategies and advice is a great way to learn how to do things differently. • Seek support – if you need financial aid, don’t be afraid to apply for it. The federal government has put several relief measures in place including CEBA (a $40,000 Canada Emergency Business Account lending program); CECRA (Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance Program); government financing plans; CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit and many other CRA measures. Visit www.canada.ca for more information. • COVID-19 has posed many challenges. Be prepared to make necessary changes as the situation continually evolves. • Remain nimble – if you run a fitness club for example, you’ve probably had to move to online classes – consider how to continue implementing and offering unique solutions to meet your clients’ needs. • If you haven’t already, be sure to start working on that map for the future – how will your business look once things return to ‘normal’ – and what will the new normal look like? • Self-Care is also important. While running your business is always top of mind, it’s important to take care of your physical and mental health.
