Height guidelines coming to Galt

-

Height guidelines will soon be coming to the Galt core in Cambridge. On Tuesday councillors directed city staff to move ahead with a study to determine limits on the heights of future buildings in the downtown. The Galt core is rich with heritage, and known for scenic views of the Grand River, with church spires dotted along the skyline. Heritage advocates argue tall towers damage the downtown’s scenic views. At the Tuesday meeting they said the city should complete a heritage study of the Galt core first. Council directed staff to explore the feasibility of completing both studies concurrently. Staff will return to council on July 28 with a feasibility report and proposed height guidelines.
