In Atlantic Canadian waters, Leatherbac­k Sea Turtles usually feed on Lion’s Mane Jellyfish and Moon Jellyfish. Leatherbac­ks eat so much while they are here that they weigh about 33 per cent more in Canadian waters than they do when they reach their nesting beaches farther south. The pleated shape of the Leatherbac­k’s carapace, with its ridges and troughs, gives the turtles room to expand. Sadly, Leatherbac­ks will eat anything if it looks like a jellyfish — this might explain why Leatherbac­ks swallow things like plastic bags and deflated balloons. Yuck!a
