In Atlantic Canadian waters, Leatherback Sea Turtles usually feed on Lion’s Mane Jellyfish and Moon Jellyfish. Leatherbacks eat so much while they are here that they weigh about 33 per cent more in Canadian waters than they do when they reach their nesting beaches farther south. The pleated shape of the Leatherback’s carapace, with its ridges and troughs, gives the turtles room to expand. Sadly, Leatherbacks will eat anything if it looks like a jellyfish — this might explain why Leatherbacks swallow things like plastic bags and deflated balloons. Yuck!a
