TEETH LIKE A TREE: Dolphins

Dolphins are marine mammals and on our list of impressive­ly having up to about 250 toothed creatures, teeth! But how are dolphin teeth like trees? Well, their teeth have rings inside them the way a tree’s trunk has rings that show you how old it is. More facts about dolphin teeth: they don’t grow back once they are lost, and dolphins don’t actually use them to chew!

Their teeth are used to grasp, grip or hold prey.

Instead of chewing their food, dolphins swallow a single gulp — we DO it in NOT want you to try that at home! Different species dolphins have different of amounts of teeth. For example, the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin has between 80 and 100 teeth, while the Short-Beaked Common Dolphin has as many as 240 teeth.
