Mexico sees weekend killing spree

TIJUANA, MEXICO Twenty-two people were murdered on Saturday night in suspected drug- related crimes around Mexico, including five shot dead at a child’s birthday party, authoritie­s said Sunday.

Three gunmen opened fire and killed five people — four men and a male teen — at the party in Tijuana near the U.S. city of San Diego, Calif., state authoritie­s said.

Meanwhile, four prisoners were killed in a jail in Chihuahua state, where another eight people were murdered in suspected organized drug crime related incidents, and five people were killed by gunmen who attacked them in the city of Torreon.

More than 50,000 people have died in rising drug violence in the past five years, according to media counts, amid a military crackdown on organized crime.
