Nurses important patient advocates
Re: Nurses punished for their RN credentials, by Sharon McMahon, July 14. Re: Burkoski demonstrated rare integrity, by Margot Dollar, June 29.
As a longtime bedside RN in a general hospital who saw many changes over the years, we were taught that an important part of our practice was to be a patient advocate, something I have carried into retirement.
I agree with Margot Dollar’s and Sharon McMahon’s letters. Laying off RNs and firing an experienced, knowledgeable nursing executive for speaking out against this is not good for our health care.
I recently wrote to the provincial minister of health to express my views and concerns, and I encourage others to do so.
Health care is our most important commodity.
