Larry, the cantankerous resident cat at 10 Downing Street — official Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office — has been squaring off with neighbouring felines over the coveted front entrance pad of the prime minister’s official residence in London. His chief adversary is Palmerston, the resident Chief Mouser of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Another contender is about to enter the fray in the form of Gladstone, the newly appointed Chief Mouser to the Treasury Office.
