JIM PARKER The Windsor Junior Selects are headed back to the Canadian junior baseball championship.

The Selects will take aim at a seventh national medal in the last 10 years after earning the trip Monday by winning the Ontario junior elimination tournament in Oshawa.

Windsor posted a perfect 7-0 record to capture the tournament with an explosive offence that put up nearly 8.5 runs per game.

The Selects posted double digits in runs in four games, which included a 14-10 win over St. Thomas in Monday’s final.

Pitching was solid for the Selects through the first six games of the double-knockout tournament. Windsor beat Scarborough 2-1, Pickering 11-5, St. Thomas 14-0, Guelph 2-0, Mississauga North 13-1 and Newmarket 3-2 before winning the slugfest over St. Thomas in the final.

The Canadian junior baseball championship is set for Aug. 18-22 in Regina.

Lions make moves: The Detroit Lions took offensive tackle Corey Robinson off the physically unable to report list in time for Monday’s training camp practice.

As well, the Lions waived linebacker Domique Tovell while signing undrafted rookie free agent linebacker Raphael Kirby.

The 6-foot, 236-pound Kirby, who plays middle linebacker, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in October. He was the University of Miami’s leading tackler at the time of the injury and finished his career with 124 tackles in 39 games.

Clippers force deciding game: The Windsor Clippers will play for a spot in the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B final Tuesday in Orangeville against the Northmen. The Clippers forced a fifth and deciding game in the series with an 8-7 win over Orangeville on Sunday at Forest Glade Arena. It was the second straight game in the series decided by a single goal and a third went to overtime.

Logan Holmes and Andrew Garant each had two goals and five points for the Clippers. Noah Bushnell also scored twice, while Patrick Kaschalk and Chase Kavanaugh added single goals. The Clippers were outshot 56-31 in the game, but got a standout effort in net by goalie Braydon Bell, who finished with 49 saves to earn the win.

Bishop in form: In her final race before the Olympic Games, former University of Windsor Lancers’ standout Melissa Bishop won the women’s 800 metres at the TrackTown Summer Series in Eugene, Ore.

The meet attracted 21 Olympians, with Bishop taking her specialty in 1:59.74, just ahead of American Brenda Martinez, who won a bronze medal in the event at the 2013 world championships, and finished in 1:59.82. Shannon Rowbury, who is the American record holder in the 1,500 metres, finished in 1:59.97.
