Retiring administrator eyes Tecumseh run

Windsor’s Drouillard will join race in byelection for Ward 2 council seat

A retiring administrator for the City of Windsor has added her name into the race for the vacant council seat in the town of Tecumseh.

Marian Drouillard, 59, the city’s manager of geomatics, said Monday her vast municipal experience will be helpful should she be elected as Ward 2 councillor — filling the seat through an upcoming byelection.

“I am a real community person,” she said. “Representing Ward 2 and Tecumseh would be an honour and privilege. Community service is important and I always hoped to run (for council) in retirement and that time is now as I am retiring in a few months.

“I can do the job full time, so that would be good for the community. With all the changes that are happening I feel it’s an exciting time to be in Tecumseh.”

Drouillard filed her nomination papers at town hall on Monday. She is the fourth known candidate to date seeking to fill the town’s vacant Ward 2 seat following the tragic sudden death of Coun. Mike Rohrer, who died of heart attack in May at the age of 45.

Other candidates include real estate agent and marketing manager Chris Carpenter, plus Scott Shields, a former councillor and deputy mayor of St. Clair Beach between 1988 and 1998.

Last week, Rohrer’s family announced they will be supporting family friend Bill Altenhof, an engineer and professor at the University of Windsor.

The byelection will be held Oct. 14. Candidates have until Aug. 30 to file nomination papers.

Drouillard, who resides on Hayes Road in St. Clair Beach, has been employed by the city for over 25 years and said she plans to retire in December.

She has been active in her community as a volunteer organizer of the annual Terry Fox Giant Used Book Sale and volunteer committee member of the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run.

Her tenure with the city has allowed her to become well-versed on inner workings within a municipality, Drouillard said.

“Having spent over 25 years working in various roles from entry level to management, as well as sitting on a variety of committees over the years, I have gained a thorough understanding of the workings of all municipal departments,” she said.
