Saints claim fourth straight OCAA title

The St. Clair College Saints men’s baseball team won its fourthstra­ight OCAA title on Sunday in Etobicoke.

The Saints beat the Fanshawe Falcons from London, by a 7-4 count in the final. St. Clair reached the final by beating Durham College 3-1 on Saturday as well as Humber College by a 9-1 count.

Saints freshman Miguel Cienfuegos was named the tournament’s MVP while pitcher Kyle Breitner and third baseman Max Ayarz were named to the all-star team.

Cienfuegos got the final eight outs to pick up the win in relief while outfielder Crannel Jerald was named player of the game with two hits and driving in a run.

FRATMEN FINISH SECOND

The three-time Ontario Football Conference champion Windsor AKO Fratmen had their 29-game winning streak abruptly ended on Saturday.

The Fratmen fell 43-20 to the Hamilton Hurricanes at Lajeunesse Field, and with it AKO ended the regular season 7-1 and finished second behind the Hurricanes (71). AKO will host third-seeded Ottawa on Saturday at 2 p.m. in semifinal action.

The Hurricanes jumped to a 36-0 lead at the half on Saturday. AKO battled back to make it a 16-point game, but could get no closer.

LANCERS DROP FINALE

The University of Windsor Lancers closed out the OUA football season with a 38-9 loss to the No. 7-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks at Alumni Field on Saturday.

Quarterbac­k Casey Wright hit Chris Tannous with a seven-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter for Windsor’s only touchdown. Anthony Malandrucc­olo had the convert for the Lancers (2-6) and Clark Green added two singles against Laurier (7-1). Linebacker Frank Renaud led the Lancers with 13 tackles.

LANCER WOMEN’S SOCCER

Krystin Lawrence posted the shutout as the University of Windsor Lancers closed out the OUA women’s soccer regular season with a 0-0 draw with the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Field on Sunday. The Lancers, who will host a playoff game, finished the season fourth in the West Division at 8-1-7, just a point back of Guelph (9-2-5).

LANCER HOCKEY SPLITS

The University of Windsor Lancers got a goal and an assist each for Julian Luciani and Todd Rachford in a 4-1 OUA men’s hockey win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday. Justice Dundas and Tyler Ness added singles for the Lancers (4-2-0).

The Lancer women’s team fell 5-2 to the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury on Saturday.

SAINTS VOLLEYBALL WINS

The St. Clair College Saints men’s and women’s volleyball teams won their OCAA season-opening matches on Saturday at the SportsPlex.

The men’s team needed five games to beat the Redeemer Royals by scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 20-25 and 15-9.

The women’s team beat the Royals 3-1 by scores of 13-25, 25-17 2515 and 25-13.

JUNIOR C HOCKEY

Jordan Luciw scored at 4:41 of overtime to lift the Amherstbur­g Admirals to a 4-3 win over the firstplace Blenheim Blades Saturday.

The Mooretown Flags earned a 4-1 win over the Essex 73’s. Anthony Cristofaro had the lone goal for the 73’s.
