Suspect with bat sparks standoff

-

A standoff and subsequent arrest in Windsor’s east end on Saturday started with a man exhibiting violent behaviour and reportedly wielding a baseball bat, police say. The suspect was inside an apartment building in the 800 block of Pillette Road when Windsor police were called around 3.45 p.m. When officers arrived, a male told them he was the victim of an altercation with the suspect. The male said he’d managed to escape — but the suspect had locked himself into a room in the unit. According to the alleged victim, an argument had developed and the suspect was asked to leave, but refused. A female resident of the apartment fled the unit. The male resident alleged the suspect began threatening and attacking him with a weapon, but he avoided being hit and was able to run out of the apartment when police arrived. Meanwhile, the suspect barricaded himself behind a door. Police said they made numerous attempts to contact the suspect before the tactical team forced the door open and arrested the man. Lowell Campbell, 46, of Windsor, faces charges of uttering threats, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, forcible confinement, and two counts of breach of probation.
