Adventure Bay alters fees

Adventure Bay is going after more customers — even those who don’t like water.

The Adventure Bay Family Water Park is adding some new membership options, and a Land Lover admission rate, starting Friday.

The idea, according to a news release, is “to welcome back former members, provide new choices for current members, and invite new members to dive in and join the fun for the first time.”

Fans of the water park can now choose shorter memberships for March Break, Christmas holidays, the academic year or the summer. Not all new prices have been determined.

“The expanded membership options, including our upcoming March Break membership, are designed to allow families more flexibility in regards to their membership commitment,” said Jen Knights, the manager of Adventure Bay and the city’s aquatic services.

“We hope that Windsor and area residents will make these memberships part of their ‘staycation’ plans.”

The 2017 March Break memberships are valid March 11-19, and cost $27 for guests over 42 inches in height, and $18 for guests under 42 inches.

Meanwhile, any adult supervising youngsters from the sidelines can now buy a Land Lover pass at $5 for the day, or $2 for the evening — instead of the regular $23 day pass.

“The new Land Lover rate will provide an option for families visiting with participants who may want to be in the water park but might not want to swim,” Knights said. “It’s ideal for parents or grandparents who might want to relax in the park and read a book while their family members splash about.”

Two weeks ago, council voted to add $50,000 to the Adventure Bay marketing budget — for a total of $200,00 a year — in a bid to attract more guests to the facility. In an era of skyrocketing utility rates, the aquatic complex costs $3.2 million to run annually, though several cost-saving measures are bringing that number down.

Despite the better prices for Land Lovers, restrictions on how many children one adult can supervise still apply. For more information, visit Adventurebay.ca or call 519-974-AQUA (2782).
