Movie about to begin: Comfortable yet?
Devonshire Mall Cineplex changing to La-Z-Boy-like chairs in theatres
Your movie-going experience at Windsor’s Devonshire Mall is about to get a lot more comfortable.
Cineplex has announced that all 12 theatres at the location will be losing their old fold-up seats — and replacing them with luxury recliners.
The high-back, extra-wide seats can tilt like La-Z-Boys and have extending foot rests — all adjustable at the touch of a button.
“This is definitely a first for Windsor,” said Cineplex spokeswoman Sarah Van Lange. “All the seats are going to be replaced. We’ve rolled out this concept in only a handful of cities.”
What’s the trade-off? The size of the new chairs means that the theatres won’t be able to seat as many people as they did previously — about half.
“The seats are much wider,” Van Lange emphasized.
Also, there may be a “very nominal” increase in regular ticket price. It’s about creating experiences,” Van Lange added. “You’ll go into the new auditoriums and it will be a completely luxurious experience.”
Along with the recliners, Cineplex Odeon Devonshire Mall will also be equipped with its first UltraAVX auditorium.
Described as “one of Canada’s most powerful and immersive movie-going experiences,” the UltraAVX package includes a larger wall-to-wall screen; ultra highdefinition picture quality thanks to Christie True 4K projectors; and Dolby Atmos surround sound.
Installation of the recliners and the UltraAVX theatre will take place over the coming months, with completion expected by midyear.
The Cineplex location will remain open for business throughout the renovation process, which will be carried out in phases.
As for the seats at Cineplex’s other Windsor location — SilverCity — Van Lange said there aren’t any plans at this time for a similar upgrade.
