Hospital shouldn’t have to kill people

Re: Searching ‘along the 401’ for a place to die, by Anne Jarvis, Feb. 17

Should this article not be entitled: Searching for a place to be killed? I am quite sure that Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare offers palliative care, which has the real dignity of the human person at heart for a dignified death.

My brother, Dr. Ray LaRocque, and his friends, Dr. Percy Demers, Dr. Henry Schiller and others, who gave their lives in the service of the sick and dying at the old Hotel-Dieu, must be turning in their graves as they witness Hotel-Dieu acute care being relegated to Hotel-Dieu palliative care because of the killing of babies in the womb — abortion — and now being questioned for its values.

I wonder why public funds are seen as belonging only to those who have anti-Christian values, those who have freely chosen to be their own God by choosing power over life or death. Why is this new religion of secular humanism granted all rights over public funds, which originate in great part from people who believe in God and his right over life and death: Catholics, fellow Christians, Jews, Muslims and others?

How we can use such words as public funds, tolerance, choice and compassion to support such life suppressing efforts which go counter to the Hippocratic Oath, the commandment of God and the true welfare of our country is beyond sound reasoning. And how can a Catholic CEO question the ability of a Catholic hospital to refuse to provide this service and comply with the law, which has exempted it from doing so? God have mercy on us all.
